If I could say it in words there would be no reason to paint.
Edward Hopper
I love that my art knows me better than I know myself. I love that my art teaches me things. I love that when I am swirling with emotions, art helps me make sense of them. I love that when I really love something or someone, I can put it all in my art. I love that I can show it off to the world or I can hide it.
I love painting in mixed-media because the possibilities are endless. I can say what I want to say layer by layer. I love it when something that feels like an epic fail becomes the best chaos layer for what happens next. Most of the time, the art teaches me. I love it when this happens.
I love that I can tell my stories with my art. I love that I can tell those stories by hiding my friends and family in my art with their words. I usually have scripture or poetry or music in the underlayers and my paintings are full of the emotions orbiting my head. My husband, my biggest supporter, says I need to paint to get all the stuff in my head out! He’s right. (We save a lot of money on therapy.)
I love to spend an evening, with a brush in one hand, a glass of white in the other... with my family around, doing their own things, hanging out together. I paint and play in Colorado with my husband, 3 kids and our puppy, Winnie, who I love.
